The Prince George’s County School system breaks ground on the new Hyattsville Elementary School today. Education, county and state leaders along with members of the Hyattsville community gathered to celebrate the school construction project. “It was hard fought at the council to make sure the second round of P3 was approved and supported by the community,” said Wanika Fisher, Prince George’s County council member representing district two. “Hyattsville Elementary is the heartbeat in our community in district two and I couldn’t be more thrilled.” Once completed the 133,000 square foot building will include four floors, more than 30 classrooms and house about 650 students. “We are going to get a crown jewel right, the most state-of-the-art school that will be built at that point in time,” said Dr. Richard McKee, the principal at Hyattsville Elementary School. The new school is set to open in time for the start of the 2028 to 2029 academic school year.
